LUMICRON CAPTURE | LOCATION UNSPECIFIED
“No matter what you do, the brimstone is the least of your worries. She’ll come for it, in time.”

We’re going to take a quick break from the Dark Legacy Series posts and delve into the next installment. Contract’s been paid, and the blade’s unsheathed. Let’s see the blood of it.

We’re still a little bit away from the next release or it going to the editor, but I like to give readers teases of the next book. And you’ve been patiently waiting since the last release. That said, if you haven’t read through Vol. III, you’re going to be hit with spoilers right out of the gate. This is your only warning.

Let’s dive in…

Prologue

The roiling black miasma hovered above the face of Ermaeyth.

Bound to itself, constantly shifting and boiling, it expanded and collapsed like seizing lungs, yet never broke free of its invisible confinement. To the eye, it resembled an ominous cloud of obsidian smog floating above the world. Grass turned to ash beneath it. Dirt leached of life and vibrancy, turning bone-white in its wake. Animals succumbed to the life-absorption as it drifted by.

As it moved, it narrowed into a thin coil of smoke, elongating and weaving back and forth, its path serpentine, its destination, enigmatic. For a brief moment, it formed a wraith-like silhouette, stretching skyward before condensing below. But the shape couldn’t endure, and the smoke rebounded upon itself, collapsing into formless vapor.

It billowed within, like a geyser bursting from the earth beneath dark water, bubbles erupting through the cold depths.

From somewhere inside it came a grating sound, beast-like and otherworldly. A howl of traumatic agony and malevolent rage echoed through the darkness.

The baleful fount stilled before resuming its wayward path, searching in vain for reunification. When that day came, it’d be free. Until then, it slithered onward, adrift without purpose, and drowning in madness.
